The lower silhouette is designed for people who want the practical benefits of a wool sauna hat without a tall, expressive form.
Its appearance is calm and minimal, yet unmistakably part of the KIUASSUOLA™ Sauna Hat Collection.
We believe good design should always begin with purpose.
Sometimes that purpose calls for a bold silhouette.
Sometimes it calls for something quieter.
Both belong in the Finnish sauna.
Why Wear a Wool Sauna Hat?
A sauna hat is first and foremost a functional product.
Felted wool behaves very differently from a thin towel wrapped around the head.
The natural structure of wool traps air between its fibres, creating an insulating layer that helps slow the transfer of intense heat towards the scalp, ears and hair.
This can make hotter löyly sessions more comfortable while helping protect the head and hair from direct exposure to heat.
Wool also breathes and manages moisture through its natural fibre structure, making it particularly well suited to the changing warmth and humidity of the sauna.

PIKKU NOKI™ & PIKKU SAVU™ are designed primarily for the sauna.
However, the natural insulating properties of wool also make them suitable for outdoor hot tubs, winter swimming and moments spent in the fresh air between sauna sessions.
Finnish Wool, Just as Nature Made It
At KIUASSUOLA™, we believe the natural character of a material is something worth preserving.
That is why our sauna hats are made from Finnish sheep wool in its original, undyed colours.
PIKKU NOKI™ – Natural Black
Deep, understated and distinctive. Its dark colour comes from the wool itself.
PIKKU SAVU™ – Natural Grey
Soft, calm and timeless. Its grey shade is equally natural, with no artificial colouring.
Neither hat is dyed to achieve its colour.
We add no artificial colourants, finishing agents or protective coatings.
Genuine natural wool may vary slightly in colour, texture and structure. The handmade shape can also differ subtly from one hat to another.
These differences are not defects.
They are part of the material's character and the nature of genuine craftsmanship.
Natural sheep wool may also retain some lanolin, the wool's own natural oil, and a subtle characteristic wool scent.
We do not try to disguise these qualities.
Finnish wool is allowed to remain Finnish wool.
Felted Entirely by Hand in Finland
Every PIKKU NOKI™ and PIKKU SAVU™ sauna hat is handmade in Finland from beginning to end.
The hats are formed through traditional hand-felting, creating a seamless structure of approximately 0.5 cm thick felted wool.
Hand-felting takes time and requires an understanding of how natural wool behaves.
The material gradually takes shape through the maker's hands, rather than being produced as an identical industrial product.
This is why every hat has a slightly individual character.
The natural wool, the material's texture and the maker's handwork are all allowed to remain visible.
Our sauna hats carry the Finnish Key Flag (Avainlippu) – a certification of Finnish work and origin.

At KIUASSUOLA™, we believe practical products do not need to be anonymous.
A sauna hat may be designed to protect the head from heat, but that does not mean its form must be ordinary or forgettable.
PIKKU NOKI™ & PIKKU SAVU™ express this philosophy through simplicity.
Their silhouette is lower and more restrained than that of our original high models, yet both retain a clear identity.
They belong naturally in a sauna, but their design is not limited to the sauna environment.
Our PIKKU NOKI™ and PIKKU SAVU™ hats were also featured in the PUE VILLA fashion show at Helsinki's Oodi Central Library.
For us, this reflects an important part of the collection's philosophy.

Our standard PIKKU NOKI™ & PIKKU SAVU™ sauna hats typically fit a head circumference of approximately 56–60 cm.
Because each hat is handmade, smaller and larger sizes may also be produced to individual measurements.

Caring for Your Finnish Wool Sauna Hat
Natural wool requires surprisingly little washing.
The most important part of caring for a felted wool sauna hat is allowing it to dry and breathe between uses.
Air After Use
After each sauna session, air the hat thoroughly and let it dry naturally in a well-ventilated place.
Avoid unnecessary washing to help preserve the felted structure and natural character of the wool.
A Finnish Winter Tradition – Snow Cleaning
During winter, clean, dry powder snow can also be used to refresh wool.
Allow the hat to cool to the outdoor temperature first.
Gently press and roll it in clean, dry snow without rubbing, twisting or stretching the wool.
Shake off the snow carefully, reshape the hat if necessary and allow it to dry naturally.
Hand Wash When Necessary
If deeper cleaning is needed, wash the hat gently by hand in lukewarm water using a small amount of mild detergent suitable for wool.
Do not rub, stretch or wring the material.
Rinse in water of a similar temperature, carefully press out excess moisture and reshape while damp.
Allow the hat to dry naturally in a well-ventilated place.
Do not machine wash, tumble dry or place directly on a heat source.
