Ancient Magic. Quiet Intelligence. Finnish Nature.
Long ago, Finnish stories told of a mysterious fox running through the snowy forests of the North.
As its magnificent tail swept across the snow and touched the trees, sparks flew into the dark winter sky.
Those sparks became the northern lights.
This is the legend of Tulikettu – the Fire Fox.
And it is the inspiration behind KETTU™, our Finnish fox Spirit Animal Sauna Thermometer.
At KIUASSUOLA™, we believe that even an everyday sauna object can carry something meaningful.
Our Spirit Animal Sauna Thermometers bring together practical Finnish sauna design, northern wildlife and stories inspired by Finnish folklore.
Each animal has its own character, symbolism and story.
KETTU™ represents intelligence, intuition, adaptability and the ability to discover possibilities where others may see only obstacles.
The Clever Wanderer of the Northern Forest
The fox is one of the most resourceful animals of the northern wilderness.
Observant, adaptable and remarkably intelligent, it finds its way through changing surroundings with patience and ingenuity.
It does not rely on strength alone.
Instead, it observes, adapts and discovers opportunities that others might overlook.
For us, KETTU™ symbolises the power of creative thinking.
The ability to question what seems obvious, recognise unexpected possibilities and find a new direction when the familiar path no longer works.
Sometimes the best solution is not the most direct one.
Sometimes it appears only when we are willing to look at things differently.
Where others see obstacles, the fox finds possibilities.
Tulikettu – The Fire Fox and the Northern Lights
One of Finland's most enchanting folk tales tells the story of the Fire Fox.
In the old legend, a magical fox runs across the snowy northern landscape.
As its tail brushes against trees, bushes and snow-covered ground, brilliant sparks rise towards the night sky.
The sparks spread across the darkness and become the shimmering northern lights.
The story lives on in the Finnish word for the aurora borealis:
Revontulet – literally, "fox fires."
Long before the northern lights could be explained scientifically, people used imagination and stories to understand the extraordinary things they witnessed in nature.
The Fire Fox belongs to this world of ancient northern storytelling.
A world where forests held secrets, animals carried symbolic meanings and nature inspired both wonder and respect.
In some old beliefs, the fox was also associated with good fortune, hidden knowledge and supernatural powers.
These are elements of folklore rather than claims about the animal itself, but they reveal how deeply the fox captured the human imagination.
KETTU™ carries a small part of this Finnish storytelling tradition into the modern sauna.
A spark of northern magic. A story worth keeping.
What Does KETTU™ Represent?
A person who shares the spirit of the fox would be intelligent, curious and resourceful.
Someone who notices connections that others may miss and knows how to find opportunities in unexpected places.
They are adaptable without losing their own identity.
They trust their intuition but also understand the value of careful observation.
They do not always choose the most obvious path.
Instead, they look for a way that makes sense to them.
Their strength may be subtle rather than immediately visible.
They know when to wait, when to change direction and when a clever idea can achieve more than force.
KETTU™ symbolises a person who combines curiosity, imagination and quiet confidence.
Someone who understands that there is often more than one way forward.
Intelligence does not always follow the expected path.
Finnish Birch. Finnish Craftsmanship.
KETTU™ is manufactured in Finland from Finnish birch plywood and finished by hand.
Birch is one of the most recognisable trees of the Finnish landscape. Its natural character and understated appearance make it a fitting material for an object inspired by the northern forest.
We wanted the thermometer to feel naturally at home in a Finnish sauna.
Not as unnecessary decoration, but as a practical object with a recognisable identity.
The natural wood, carefully finished details and distinctive fox silhouette bring together Finnish craftsmanship and northern storytelling.
The thermometer features a sauna-suitable surface finish and a ready-to-hang fixing on the reverse.
KETTU™ carries the Finnish Key Flag (Avainlippu) – a certification of Finnish work and origin.
Finnish birch. Made in Finland. Inspired by the northern forest.
More Than a Sauna Thermometer
A sauna thermometer has a simple but important purpose.
It helps you find the temperature that feels right for your sauna experience.
KETTU™ combines this everyday function with a story about the northern lights, creative intelligence and the mysteries of Finnish nature.
Its distinctive design makes it a natural addition to a home sauna, lakeside cabin or thoughtfully designed wellness environment.
For us, this reflects the wider KIUASSUOLA™ philosophy.
We believe practical products can also carry meaning, reflect personal values and become part of the stories surrounding everyday life.
A useful object does not need to be ordinary.
Sometimes even something familiar can carry a little magic.
A Gift for Someone Who Sees Possibilities
Some people have a remarkable ability to see opportunities where others see difficulties.
They are curious, imaginative and unafraid to think differently.
They may find solutions through creativity rather than force, and their ideas often lead them in unexpected directions.
KETTU™ is a meaningful gift for someone whose intelligence, originality or resourcefulness you admire.
For a person who loves solving problems, discovering new possibilities or following a path that others might not have considered.
It is also a particularly beautiful choice for anyone fascinated by the northern lights, Finnish folklore and the mysteries of northern nature.
Each thermometer comes in gift-ready packaging together with the fox's own story and symbolic meaning.
The gift carries more than a practical purpose.
It carries a message.
Stay curious. Trust your imagination. There may be another way forward.
