The story of Kiuassuola begins with a passion for well-being and a desire to bring the relaxing effects of a salt room to every home sauna. Our journey has been multistep and educational – and it began with a deeply personal experience.
The KIUASSUOLA™ journey began with a simple idea: could the calming atmosphere of a salt room become part of the Finnish home sauna?
What started as a search for a better sauna experience gradually became something much bigger. Along the way, we rediscovered the quiet wisdom of authentic Finnish sauna culture—where warmth, natural materials, silence and presence create moments of everyday wellbeing.
Today, KIUASSUOLA™ is growing into an international Finnish sauna wellbeing brand inspired by these traditions. Our mission is not only to develop innovative sauna products, but to share the authentic Finnish sauna ritual with people around the world.
At the heart of our collection is ILMARI KUURA™, an original Finnish sauna innovation that combines Finnish soapstone and KIUASSUOLA™ Sauna Ritual Salt to create a softer and more balanced sauna atmosphere. Developed and manufactured in Finland in collaboration with Tulikivi®, one of Finland's most respected soapstone manufacturers, ILMARI KUURA™ reflects our commitment to natural materials, timeless design and Finnish craftsmanship.
During 2026, our international partner network continues to expand across Europe, North America and Australia. Together with carefully selected retailers and sauna specialists, we are making authentic Finnish sauna wellbeing accessible to more people than ever before.
We are also proud to continue our work as members of Sauna from Finland and the North American Sauna Society, supporting authentic Finnish sauna culture and sharing its traditions with the international sauna community.
As our journey continues, the values that inspired KIUASSUOLA™ remain unchanged: simplicity, natural materials, Finnish craftsmanship and the belief that the best sauna moments are often the quietest ones.
The best ideas often emerge from the middle of challenges. I worked as a psychiatric nurse until my health collapsed — I seemed to be allergic to everything, with no explanation in sight.
After a long medical odyssey, I was diagnosed with HaT and MCAS — a genetic variant and overactive mast cell activity. Recovery was slow, as awareness of these conditions in healthcare remains limited.
Living with chronic illness, I began to accept that full recovery might not be possible, and focused on relieving symptoms through natural means. One of those discoveries was salt.
Sauna Salt becomes Kiuassuola
I had used sauna salt products for years but found their dispersal ineffective. I knew the benefits of salt room therapy, but the nearest salt room was too far away — so I started thinking about how to improve the effectiveness of sauna salt.
And so Kiuassuola was born. We tested the product on a stainless steel tray, and the interest that followed took us completely by surprise. In less than two months, what started as a side project had become a full-time pursuit.
However, stainless steel trays came with safety concerns, so I began exploring a stone tray — after all, stone is a natural fit for the sauna stove.
The first ILMARI was designed with safety and quality as the top priorities, crafted from surplus stone from Tulikivi fireplaces — making it an ecological choice. The stone's heat retention optimises dispersal, resulting in a safe and durable tray.
As we grew, the range expanded to include artisan sauna drinks, spirit animal sauna thermometers, KiuasICE, and a towel turban — all following the same philosophy: natural, Finnish-made, and quality-driven.
The next step was a design piece: ILMARI KUURA, crafted from rare blue soapstone in collaboration with Tulikivi. It brings an aesthetically refined, Scandinavian-interior-friendly option to the sauna.
ILMARI KUURA was launched at the international World Sauna Forum in June 2025, with domestic sales beginning in July 2025 at Kauppakeskus Veturi in Kouvola.
