Quiet Endurance. Shared Strength. Northern Nature.
Through snow, wind and the changing seasons, the reindeer continues its journey across the northern landscape.
Its strength is not found in travelling alone, but also in the ability to move together, adapt and find safety in the company of others.
This is the spirit of PORO™ – the Finnish reindeer.
At KIUASSUOLA™, we believe that even an everyday sauna object can carry something meaningful.
Our Spirit Animal Sauna Thermometers bring together practical Finnish sauna design, northern nature and stories inspired by Finnish folklore.
Each animal has its own character, symbolism and story.
PORO™ represents perseverance, balance, reliability and the quiet strength of standing beside others – through both easy and difficult seasons.
The Steady Traveller of the North
The reindeer is one of the most recognisable animals of northern Finland.
It belongs to a landscape shaped by long winters, changing seasons and the remarkable contrasts of Arctic nature.
The reindeer continues its journey through snow, wind and difficult terrain, adapting to the conditions around it.
Its survival is not simply a question of physical strength.
It also depends on endurance, awareness and the ability to move together.
For us, PORO™ symbolises the value of being dependable.
The ability to continue when circumstances become difficult, to remain steady when others need support and to understand that not every journey must be made alone.
Strength does not always mean leading the way.
Sometimes it means walking beside someone.
There is strength in staying together.
The White Reindeer and the Light of Winter
In northern storytelling and symbolic traditions, the white reindeer has sometimes been given a special meaning.
Its pale appearance connects it naturally with snow, the winter landscape and the light that seems especially precious during the darkest months of the year.
In stories and symbolic interpretations, the white reindeer can represent protection, hope and the promise that brighter days will return.
It is a beautiful image of northern life.
A reminder that even during the longest winter, the seasons continue to change.
For us, this symbolism adds another dimension to PORO™.
The reindeer is not simply an animal that endures difficult conditions.
It also represents calm, balance and the reassurance of knowing that the journey continues.
Even the darkest winter carries the promise of returning light.
From Northern Traditions to Christmas Stories
The reindeer also has a familiar place in more recent Christmas traditions.
As the trusted companion of Santa Claus, it carries gifts from the snowy North to people around the world.
This story adds another layer to the character of PORO™.
Reliability. Cooperation. The joy of helping others.
It makes the reindeer an especially meaningful Christmas gift, but its symbolism reaches far beyond the festive season.
PORO™ belongs to the northern landscape throughout the year.
Its story is about the people who remain beside us, regardless of the season.
A companion for every journey, not only at Christmas.
What Does PORO™ Represent?
A person who shares the spirit of the reindeer would be patient, resilient and dependable.
Someone who understands the value of cooperation and the importance of looking after others.
They may not seek attention or recognition.
Instead, their strength is found in consistency, kindness and the quiet determination to keep going.
They know that life has different seasons.
Some are easy and full of light.
Others require patience, endurance and the support of those around us.
A person with the PORO™ spirit remains steady through these changes.
They bring balance when circumstances become uncertain and offer reassurance simply by being present.
They understand that caring for others is not a weakness.
Sometimes the strongest person is the one who stays.
PORO™ represents the wisdom of walking together and the courage to remain dependable when life becomes difficult.
Finnish Birch. Finnish Craftsmanship.
PORO™ is manufactured in Finland from Finnish birch plywood and finished by hand.
Birch is one of the most recognisable trees of the Finnish landscape. Its natural appearance and understated character make it a fitting material for an object inspired by northern nature.
We wanted the thermometer to feel naturally at home in a Finnish sauna.
Not as unnecessary decoration, but as a practical object with its own identity.
The natural wood, carefully finished details and distinctive reindeer silhouette bring together Finnish craftsmanship and northern storytelling.
The thermometer features a sauna-suitable surface finish and a ready-to-hang fixing on the reverse.
PORO™ carries the Finnish Key Flag (Avainlippu) – a certification of Finnish work and origin.
Finnish birch. Made in Finland. Inspired by the North.
More Than a Sauna Thermometer
A sauna thermometer has a simple but important purpose.
It helps you find the temperature that feels right for your sauna experience.
PORO™ combines this everyday function with the symbolism of the reindeer – endurance, reliability, balance and the value of companionship.
Its distinctive design makes it a natural addition to a home sauna, lakeside cabin or thoughtfully designed wellness environment.
For us, this reflects the wider KIUASSUOLA™ philosophy.
We believe practical products can also carry meaning, reflect personal values and become part of the stories surrounding everyday life.
A useful object. A story from the North. A meaning that stays.
A Gift for Someone Who Is Always There
Some people make our lives easier simply by walking beside us.
They are the friends who remain when life becomes difficult.
The family members who quietly look after everyone else.
The people whose support we sometimes take for granted because it has always been there.
PORO™ is a meaningful gift for someone whose reliability, kindness and quiet strength you appreciate.
For a loyal friend, a caring family member or someone who has stood beside you through changing circumstances.
It is also a natural choice for those who love Finnish Lapland, northern nature, Christmas traditions and Finnish sauna culture.
Each thermometer comes in gift-ready packaging together with the reindeer's own story and symbolic meaning.
The gift carries more than a practical purpose.
It carries a message.
Thank you for being there. For walking beside me. For making every season a little easier.
