Stone, Salt & Stillness – KIUASSUOLA™ Featured in Finland's Sauna Magazine

We are delighted to share that KIUASSUOLA™ has been featured in the latest issue of Sauna magazine (3/2026), published by the Finnish Sauna Society.

The feature appears on pages 54–55 and introduces our brand and its connection to Finnish sauna traditions.

The magazine article was independently written by its journalist and published in Finnish. As our community continues to grow internationally, we also wanted to share the story behind KIUASSUOLA™ in our own words – and in English.

Because sometimes the most meaningful stories begin with the simplest things.

Stone. Salt. Stillness.

The Finnish Sauna Doesn't Need More Performance

In Finland, the sauna has traditionally been a place where there is no need to hurry, achieve or impress.

You throw water on the stones when it feels right. You step outside when your body asks for a break. And sometimes, the most valuable part of the experience is simply sitting quietly.

This understanding of sauna is at the heart of KIUASSUOLA™.

Our philosophy is built around natural materials, meaningful rituals and respect for traditions that have existed long before our brand.

When an Ancient Stone Found a New Purpose

The idea behind KIUASSUOLA™ began with a question: could natural sauna ritual salts become a more integrated part of the traditional Finnish sauna experience?

The answer was found in Finnish soapstone.

For generations, soapstone has been valued in Finland for its ability to retain heat. It has been used in fireplaces, homes and sauna environments, making it a natural starting point for a new kind of sauna ritual.

Our ILMARI KUURA™ brings together Finnish soapstone, natural ritual salts, heat and moisture.

Made in Finland in collaboration with Tulikivi, ILMARI KUURA™ is designed to be used again and again, with the ritual salts replenished as needed.

This is the essence of our Finnish Salt Sauna Rituals.

An old material, a new purpose – without losing its connection to Finnish sauna heritage.

We believe innovation does not always mean inventing something entirely new. Sometimes, it means discovering new possibilities in something that nature has already given us.

Nature Was Never Meant to Be Identical

Natural materials are much more than an aesthetic choice for KIUASSUOLA™.

No two pieces of soapstone are exactly alike. Natural salts vary in colour and texture, while wool carries its own unique character.

To us, these differences are not imperfections.

They are reminders of authenticity.

As KIUASSUOLA™ grew from one sauna ritual into a wider collection, we wanted to preserve this philosophy in everything we created.

Our NOKI™ and SAVU™ sauna hats, for example, are handcrafted in Finland from Finnish sheep's wool in its natural colours. Their distinctive design was developed in collaboration with Piritta Mäkinen Design.

Just like soapstone, wool tells a story of nature, traditional craftsmanship and materials that deserve to be appreciated for what they truly are.

Finnish Sauna Culture Is Also About Stories

A Finnish sauna is more than a building, a heater and steam.

It carries memories, traditions, folklore and generations of shared experiences.

We want these stories to have a place in our products, too.

Our Spirit Animal Sauna Thermometers draw inspiration from animals of the northern forests and the meanings they have carried in Finnish folklore.

Our HERTTA™, MIELIKKI™ and HALLA™ artisan sauna infusions, created from Finnish berries, herbs, leaves and flowers, celebrate another part of the sauna experience: the peaceful moments after the heat.

Because the sauna ritual does not end when we leave the sauna room.

It continues in cooling down, sharing a drink, enjoying nature and spending time together.

From Finland to the World – Without Losing Our Roots

KIUASSUOLA™ has grown from a single sauna idea into an international Finnish sauna brand.

Along the way, we have held on to one important principle:

Every product must have a meaningful reason to belong in the world of Finnish sauna.

We don't want to create products simply because they are expected in a sauna collection.

We want each one to continue a story of natural materials, Finnish craftsmanship, cultural heritage or personal sauna rituals.

As our products find their way to sauna lovers around the world, we don't want to make the Finnish sauna more exotic or complicated than it really is.

Quite the opposite.

We believe that some of the most beautiful things about Finnish sauna culture need no translation.

The feeling of natural stone.

The warmth of wool.

The scents of nature.

The gentle warmth of the sauna.

And the silence.

PURE. STRONG. RITUAL.
